Changing Dynamics of Business and Government Collaboration:
The global economic turbulence together with revolutionary technological change and serious ecological risks are challenging traditional business and government collaboration. The social contract designed for traditional industrial societies does not work properly any more. There are deep ideological disagreements what kind of government intervention would be needed to adjust societies to new global realities. On one hand, there is a strong belief especially among major technology companies that less governmental intervention is good for innovation, growth and job creation. Simultaneously, populist movements crying for protectionism and active governmental interventions are getting stronger support both in Europe and America. There is an urgent need to rewrite the social contracts that govern our democracies as well as business and government collaboration. The critical questions are : How to provide high quality physical and intellectual resources and a favorable regulatory environment for private-sector growth but social and ecological sustainability as well? What kind of future public-private sector relationship will be optimal to take the most of the huge opportunities offered by science, technology and innovations? The course will put focus in understanding interaction between global technological trends and creation of sustainable economic growth potential, and to identify and analyze future potentials in business and government collaboration
